THE LAST SON

PART III

THE SUPERMAN

It’s been seven years since this project began…

And in that time we’ve had multiple Hollywood films, a live-action show, an animated show, and an innumerable amount of comics…

And yet…

What it is…

One mild-mannered person’s concept for the “Generation Defining Superman Epic”.  The kind of American fairy tale some of us have wished for yet have never seen fully realized…even now, in post-July 2025.   The Last Son Trilogy was crafted to be something earnest, something elegant, and hopefully characterized by a mythic timelessness not altogether captured (*on-screen) since 1978.

Alongside the writers I’ve chosen to honor and adapt throughout the stories in this collection, I took inspiration tonally and visually from the films of David Lean and Alfonso Cuarón – auteur visual storytellers with the courage to allow their cameras to quietly linger for long breaths upon a desert landscape, a boat in the mist, or some deep-space vista.  Their art deftly weaves between action and genuine tender emotion without apology.  As a result, The Last Son Trilogy books have a cinematic format and structure, and it allows for them to be quick and enjoyable reads.

In the hands of the inspired writer, Clark Kent/Superman “THE STORY” is a literal treasure trove of characters – a lens on the human condition, on family, adulthood, and compassion.  On the macro, the stories can be unique time capsules of ever-changing Americana, social commentary, and the zeitgeist of the day.  The well goes deep, if that is indeed what you’re searching for.  The magic is running through it.  While today’s entertainment certainly makes it easy for us to main-line bombast and spectacle, what has allowed this particular story to endure for almost one hundred years is the genuine heart that lies at the center of it all.

Who are these people, really?

That is the story.

The action serves merely as a compliment to the beautiful people I’ve uncovered as these pages unfolded.  This was a personal journey for me.  And you are welcome to see where it goes.  At the end of the day, this was something I needed to do, and that’s all there is to it.

What it isn’t…

An attempt to fix what cannot be fixed within some professional capacity.  The canonical legacy of this story is “safely” under guard by entities and corporations that would never dare impart trust of their precious IP to someone from nowhere with nothing to show for it.  I make no presumptions or assumptions that this goes anywhere other than out into the fanfic ether. Perhaps it will resonate or be appreciated by a few, or some, or many?   Whatever happens, happens.

So it is in the spirit of Openness and Excitement that I have sent these stories out across the stars. I can only hope they find a new home, just as I found a home in them.

Because if there is one thing I have learned in this life…

Everyone needs a good SUPERMAN story.
